You make the standards

INVOLVED PARTIES

The process of developing voluntary standards is not unlike a “multi-player cooperative game”. But primarily, standards are developed by market players, which means you! By “market players” we mean industry players, trade unions, consumers and associations in the sector concerned. These are the parties who propose initiating a standard creation process. They develop the standard on a consensual basis, validate the various versions and apply it once approved. But the standard is voluntary: organizations may or may not participate and can choose whether to refer to it.

Consensus

Consensus is the decision-making tool that best serves the general interest because it protects minorities. It is the result of a dynamic where discussion is of prime importance. Every participant, including minorities, has a voice, is heard, cooperates and is involved in the decision-making process. This requires listening to all points of view. Decision by consensus is possible because certain participants agree not to oppose the consensus proposal. Consensus is in fact an opportunity to increase the quality and legitimacy of decisions.

Voluntary

Standardization is by nature a voluntary approach. Initiated by market players, the voluntary standard is the result of co-production between professionals and players from all sectors who have perceived the benefit for their market and choose to commit to its development. Application of published standards is voluntary. This is the case for 99% of standards!

TAX BENEFITS

Created to motivate companies to invest in research and development and increase their competitiveness, the Research Tax Credit scheme offers a 50% tax credit on standards-related expenses for companies (participating in French or international standards development work, travel costs for involved professionals, etc.) on condition that they pertain to research and development activities.

WORKING IN STANDARDIZATION COMMISSIONS

Participating in standardization means taking part in standardization commissions, meetings where voluntary standards are developed. You participate in defining market rules, make your business, company or organization known to French partners, benefit from a privileged relational network and develop your technology intelligence. You have access to European and international work and negotiate with other countries on the technical content of tomorrow’s standards. You will also develop lobbying and alliance networks to defend French positions and thereby promote your organization to major national and international economic players!
