Workshop on eXtensions for Financial Services (AFNOR/XFS)
The XFS and J/XFS specifications, previously hosted by CEN, are now officially maintained and published by AFNOR. This transition follows a joint assessment conducted with CEN, the members of the XFS Financial Services Committee and AFNOR, and reflects a shared commitment to ensuring continuity and stability for the community. As the long-standing Secretariat of the Committee, AFNOR brings established expertise to provide seamless governance and preserve the existing work and contributions. This new site now serves official reference point for all XFS standards and future updates.
XFS and J/XFS are extensions for financial services designed to provide a client–server architecture for banking applications. They cover devices such as EFTPOS terminals (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) and automated teller machines (ATMs). Financial institutions are particularly keen to be able to select the software that controls their equipment in a context where their software environment is increasingly standardized. XFS and J/XFS provide APIs that allow access to and control of various financial‑service devices from different manufacturers.
The XFS Workshop maintains multi-vendor device access specifications with a technical commitment to the Win 32 API.
The XFS Workshop has extended the franchise of multi-vendor software by encouraging the participation of both self-service users and vendors to take part in the deliberations of the creation of an industry standard.
The fundamental aims of the XFS Workshop are to promote a clear and unambiguous specification for both service providers and application developers.
